Surface characteristics of resin composite materials after finishing and polishing.

چکیده
This in vitro study determined the surface roughness (Ra) and absolute gloss (AG) values for 2 resin composites: a microhybrid and a microfill. Eight groups (n = 4) of each resin composite were prepared, along with 4 controls (Mylar strip) for the 2 resin composites. After finishing with a medium polishing disc, the specimens from each resin composite material were subjected to 7 polishing procedures, and Ra measurements and AG values were determined. Two-way ANOVA and Fisher's LSD multiple comparisons revealed significant differences (P ≤ 0.05). For both materials, the control group produced the lowest Ra values and highest AG values, and the medium polishing disc produced the highest Ra values and lowest AG values. Of the 2 resin composites, the microhybrid had lower mean Ra and higher mean AG than the microfill for the majority of the polishing procedures. Pearson's r correlation coefficient (P ≤ 0.001) indicated an inverse linear relationship between Ra and AG.

In-Vitro Comparative Study of the Effect of Four Finishing and Polishing Tools on Surface Roughness of a Microhybrid Resin Composite
Background and Aim: The complications of unwanted surface roughness of composite restorations are highly common due to the increasing use of this restorative material. Therefore, the present study was designed to compare the effect of four finishing and polishing (F&P) tools on surface roughness of microhybrid resin composites. Materials and Methods: This experimental study was performed on 42...

AIMS The aims of this study were to evaluate the effect of various finishing and polishing procedures on the surface roughness of six different composite resin materials (Artemis Enamel, TPH Spectrum, Filtek A-110, Filtek Supreme Enamel, Solitaire 2, and Filtek P-60) as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of the surface sealant application (BisCover) on the surface roughness after finishing a...
متن کاملPolishing of the Composite Resin Restorations – Literature Review
The widespread use of aesthetic f illings has highlighted their advantages and disadvantages. One of the most troublesome features of earlier aesthetic materials was the difficulty of finishing the restoration surface to decrease adherence of food debris. The rougher the finished surface, the greater the possibility of bacterial accumulation and discolouration of restoration along the restorati...
متن کاملInfluence of Finishing/Polishing Procedures on the Surface Texture of Two Resin Composites
This study compared surface roughness and gloss produced by different finishing/polishing procedures for two resin composites, Clearfil AP-X (AP-X) and Estelite Sigma (ES). A total of 70 composite discs (n=35 for each resin composite) were prepared and divided at random into seven finishing/polishing groups (n=5): glass-pressed control; using a super-fine-grit diamond bur (SF); using CompoMaste...
